South Indian Bridal Sarees

Tamil Weddings | South Indian Bridal Sarees

The wedding dress code for the South Indian Tamil bride is a saree. Usually the saree would be a red bridal saree. However, other colors can be worn as well - usually bright and joyous colors are favored.

Indian brides wear gold and pearl jewelery as part of their wedding adornments. Pearl is specially worn, as it is a South Indian Hyderabadi specialty. Tamil brides wear thick gold chains and gold hair jewelry adornments.

The South Indian bride also adorns her hair with flowers in hair, usually jasmine flowers. The distinctive plait is the style favored as South Indian bridal hairstyle.

The grooms of Andhra Pradesh wear the South Indian dhoti and a shirt in their style only. The Tamil grooms would not wear the shirt during marriage, but a dhoti and white Punjabi.
